Since its discovery for the reduction of facial aging lines and wrinkles in 1989, and approval in 2002, Botox injections have consistently been one of the most popular and studied medications and the number one requested aesthetic treatment for many years. On September 8 of this year, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the formal approval of Daxibotulinumtoxin A, known as Daxxify, from Revance Therapeutics for treating glabellar lines or the ’11’s’ or scowl lines between the eyebrows. In addition, the injectable treatment Daxxify is also being evaluated for the treatment of dynamic lines and wrinkles of other areas on the face including crow’s feet, forehead, and aging lines as well as medical conditions such as migraine and muscle spasticity conditions.
The Daxxify Difference
The considerable excitement around Daxxify involves several key advantages and benefits:
Duration of effect: In multiple clinical trials, the daxibotulinumtoxin A effect in reducing dynamic wrinkles was found to last approximately 6 to 9 months which is 50% longer than the typical 3 to 4 months effect of all other popular neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau.
Stability and purity: Unlike other injectable neuromodulator products, the unique and proprietary technology developed to manufacture Daxxify does not require any human or animal components and has the advantage of stability at room temperatures which help contribute to its uniquely long-lasting results.
Safety and efficacy: In multiple clinical trials involving thousands of patients, Daxxify was shown to be 98% effective after one month of treatment, with over 80% of patients still noticing benefits after 4 months, and approximately 50% enjoying improvements beyond 6 months. Just as importantly, no serious complications or side effects were observed, other than an occasional headache or temporary bruising, as a result of Daxxify treatments.
