How Fat Transfer Works
Step 01.
As with all aesthetic surgical procedures with Dr. Frank Barone at EVOLV Plastic Surgery, involves complete evaluation, examination, discussion of goals, and creation of a personalized and comprehensive rejuvenation plan. Pre-operative skin care and education are also essential for preparation and safe, optimal results. We review itemized costs and recovery time planning as well as related planned procedures with the fat grafting.
Step 02.
Depending on related procedures and the extent of fat harvest, contouring, and placement, fat grafting, and processing are either done in the office procedure facility or in an accredited outpatient surgery center under either a light general or intravenous anesthetic administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist and experienced licensed nursing staff.
Step 03.
After local, intravenous, or general anesthesia, the fatty tissue excess in selected donor sites is infiltrated with an anesthetic solution to reduce bleeding and discomfort through a small half-inch incision hidden in a skin crease. Fat is harvested with a special ultrasonic or syringe technique to preserve fat cell viability.
Contouring of the donor site is also done in most cases. The harvested fat cells are then processed and purified and then mixed with growth factors such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to improve the viability and take. The fat cell/growth factor mixture is then carefully injected into specific areas of treatment. After completion of related ancillary procedures, incisions are closed, and compression dressings are applied.
Step 04.
The amount of swelling and bruising as well as recovery will depend on the extent of the liposuction and fat harvest, as well as the degree of fat injection placement, and other related combination aesthetic procedures.
