About this Treatment
Rhinoplasty, also referred to as ‘nasal reshaping’ or a ‘nose job’ is a surgical procedure that improves facial harmony and appearance by enhancing the proportions of the nose.
Our rhinoplasty in Toledo, Ohio can also improve or correct nasal function such as impaired breathing and issues related to airflow and irritation.
What It Is
Rhinoplasty or nasal reshaping involves aesthetic, as well as functional considerations to enhance nasal shape and proportions as well as optimize air flow. When the nose appears out of proportion with other facial features, or the nose does not complement the facial appearance, it can affect self-image and confidence as well as detract from overall facial attractiveness. From a functional standpoint, the nose is involved in regulating, warming, and humidifying air flow, all of which may be compromised by structural and physiological problems with the external and internal structures of the nose. A well planned and performed rhinoplasty in Toledo results in a nasal shape that compliments and enhances natural facial features and, if needed, functionally improves airflow and breathing.
What It Treats
Imbalanced nasal size and proportions which do not compliment facial features
Excess or asymmetrical width of the nose at the bridge or the nostrils
A larger or disproportionate nasal hump and bridge
A nasal tip that is square, enlarged, bulbous, pinched, or twisted
Nasal asymmetry and disproportion
Obstructed nasal airflow or irritation caused by a deviated nasal septum or polyps
- 2.5 - 4 hours
- 2 - 3 weeks
- Natural Appearance When done properly, a ‘non-operated’ and natural appearing nasal shape that compliments facial features.
- Better Breathing Optimal breathing and airflow function.
- Enhanced Smell An improved sense of smell in selected patients.
- Symmetrical Appearance A nasal tip that is symmetrical and enhances facial profile and contour.
How Rhinoplasty Works
Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general or occasionally intravenous anesthesia at an accredited outpatient surgery facility. Dr. Barone will discuss the recommendations with you and a board-certified anesthesiologist will administer the anesthetic to make you comfortable during the procedure.
Rhinoplasty in Toledo may be done from entirely internal intranasal incisions (closed technique) or more often, through a small incision in the columella, the narrow column of tissue separating the nostrils (open technique). Dr. Barone will discuss which approach is preferred based on your anatomy and goals. Through these incisions, the nasal tissue is gently elevated allowing access to the cartilage, bone, and other nasal structures allowing your surgeon to reshape and balance the nose.
Reshaping and balance: Once all involved structures are exposed and accessible, excess, or asymmetrical areas may be trimmed or reshaped. Deficient or poorly supported structures may require cartilage to other grafts to get adequate and stable shape. Cartilage graft may be harvested from the excess or deviated portions of the nasal septum as well as from other sources. Sutures and other forms of fixation are typically used for securing grafts and other materials. Internal nasal valves and other structures regulating airflow and shape may also be addressed with grafts or suture techniques.
Correcting a deviated septum and narrowing nasal width: If the septum is deviated or imbalanced, it can be straightened and secured in the midline in order to improve airflow and breathing along with trimming of excess nasal turbinates that can interfere with proper air movement. Excessively wide or asymmetrical nasal bones may be narrowed by creating a small slit in the nasal bone base and then moving the nasal bones closer together.
Completing the procedure: After all reshaping and contouring are completed, the skin and tissue are re-draped, final evaluation is made, and the incisions closed. Nasal packing and an external splint are applied to complete the operation and we will take you to the recovery room. Although not all surgeons utilize nasal packing, Dr. Barone has found that the packing is important to stabilize the new shape and position as well as to reduce the chance of post-operative bleeding and drainage.
See the results: The packing and splint are removed after a few days. Although there is initial swelling, you will notice immediate improvement which will increase with time as the swelling resolves. We will provide you with specific post-operative instructions.

The expertise of Dr. Barone is matched only by both his care for his patients, and his passion for his work. Oftentimes, surgeons can come off as cold and too clinical, but with Dr. Barone, I felt comfortable not only with his attitude and approach, but also with his focus on both the minutia of the surgery, and the overall results I could expect. The results, of course, were excellent—even more so when considering that Dr. Barone achieved what a previous surgeon could not. Dr. Barone and his staff were well above average in their execution of patient care—both pre-op and post-op. I strongly recommend Dr. Barone for anyone considering a Rhinoplasty in Toledo.
Dr. Barone did an excellent job on my rhinoplasty. Revision from a previous surgery.
I consulted with Dr. Barone because I was unhappy with the appearance of my nose. I had a rhinoplasty many years ago that left me with a not so great result and new issues that I did not have prior to the surgery. After talking with Dr. Barone, seeing multiple before and after photos of his patients and having the Vectra imaging done in his office I knew he was the one who could help me. It has only been a few weeks since my surgery and not only has my breathing improved but my nose already looks beautiful! I was always teased growing up and have not liked my nose for as long as I can remember. To go through the first surgery and come out with new problems was very discouraging and upsetting and I thought it was something I was just going to have to live with. I finally feel like my nose looks the way it was always supposed to. Dr. Barone is a skilled surgeon who is also very artistic. When you put those two qualities together, you get a beautiful, natural result. I will never be able to thank Dr. Barone enough for what he has given me.
