How Physician Peels Work
Step 01.
As with all major aesthetic procedures at EVOLV Plastic Surgery, a workup for physician chemical peeling involves complete evaluation, examination, discussion of goals, and creation of a personalized and comprehensive aesthetic plan. Photo documentation and VISIA Skin Complexion Analysis, and thorough review and problem-based discussion of appropriate resurfacing options are conducted with each patient. Step 02.
Physician chemical peels in Toledo can be done safely in the office treatment room with oral sedation, ProNox nitrous oxide gas, nerve blocks, and local anesthesia, or in the outpatient facility with either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia if other simultaneous procedures are planned.

Chemical peeling is a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure and no incisions are needed.
Step 04.
After planned sedation and injectable nerve blocks, if needed, we cleanse the skin with alcohol to remove oils and improve absorption. Eye protection with lubricant and, sometimes, corneal shields are placed.
Step 05.
After surgery, a maintenance program to minimize downtime and maximize results will be suggested, including skin care, manual lymphatic massage and ultrasound, medical makeup, LED photo biomodulation, and other clinically proven options that improve patient outcomes. We carefully apply the planned peel solution in sections and layers. A frost on the skin surface is seen initially and then resolves. Areas of deeper damage or more severe aging changes may receive second or multiple layers and passes.
Step 05.
After treatment completion, eye shields are removed, and specific growth factors or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may be applied to the treated surface for improved healing. A numbing antioxidant iced slurry and growth factor balm are layered on the treated areas with cold compresses to complete the procedure.
Step 06.
You will return to the office a few days after surgery for post-treatment care and evaluation. A regimen with medical skin care products will be initiated in a specific sequence with each stage of healing. Lymphatic massage, red light phototherapy, and other proven options will reduce downtime and improve the comfort and quality of the result. Medical grade makeup and sunscreen will also be utilized and are important to consistency and optimal outcomes. It is extremely important to avoid sun exposure in the treated areas until cleared by your provider.
