Male breast reduction in Toledo
Remove the Excess & Restore the Confidence
About this Treatment
Male Breast Reduction
Enlargement of the male breast, known as gynecomastia (man boobs), is not uncommon.
Although this condition can be because of hormonal abnormalities or some medications, it is most often found in healthy males with no identifiable cause. Male breast reduction in Toledo, Ohio, is a surgical procedure to remove the excess tissue and restore a balanced and natural appearing contour to the chest and breast areas of the upper body.
What It Is
Younger and middle-aged men may experience unexplainable enlargement of the breast. This can be because of excess growth of the actual breast gland underneath the nipple as well as increased fatty tissue in the breast’s periphery. Disproportional enlargement of the nipple and darker skin around it (the areola) may also develop. In severe cases, excess skin over the breast with sagging of the breast tissue may occur. Gynecomastia can cause embarrassment and loss of self-confidence for men at any age. In those cases, a male breast reduction in Toledo is the most effective way to restore balance and a masculine contour to the chest area.

How Male Breast Reduction Works
Step 01.
As with all aesthetic surgical procedures at EVOLV Plastic Surgery, a male breast reduction workup involves a complete family and medical history, examination, discussion of goals, and review of all options. Any potential contributing or causative factors, such as hormonal abnormalities or medication issues, are reviewed. All costs will be itemized and reviewed with the EVOLV Patient Coordinator. The preoperative evaluation also includes photo documentation and an extensive discussion and review of incision location and size and any related concerns.
Step 02.
Male breast reduction surgery in Toledo is always done in an accredited outpatient surgery center under either IV sedation or a light general anesthetic administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist and experienced licensed nursing staff.
Step 03.
Surgical incisions are planned and designed to be minimal and inconspicuous. You will meet with your surgeon in the pre-op area for marking and incision design and planning. In most cases, the operation can be done through a 1/2-inch opening under the lateral breast and a small incision at the lower edge of the areolae. In unusually large cases of gynecomastia with skin excel an incision in the skin under the breast may be needed. Incision placement and length will depend on the degree of reduction and correction needed and the amount of tissue and skin laxity. The goal is to design a small and well-hidden incisional scar that allows the necessary access to the tissue to be removed.
Step 04.
A solution that constricts blood vessels and blocks sensory nerves (‘tumescent solution’) is perfused into the breast tissue and fat excess is removed. VASER ultrasonic selective liposuction is performed in these areas to remove excess fatty tissue and preserve the sensory nerves and blood vessels. We make a small incision within the areola or breast fold. Long-acting pain blocks (Exparel) or a nerve stimulator to decrease post-operative discomfort are preferred to reduce discomfort and downtime. Incisions are closed with dissolvable internal sutures and dressings and bra applied. Drains are typically unnecessary.
Step 05.
You will return to the office in a few days after surgery for your first dressing change. You will usually experience some relief from preoperative symptoms and see the visible improvements immediately and they will continue to get better as swelling and bruising subside. We will give you specific instructions and recommendations on activities and care of the operative site at each visit. Your final male breast reduction shape should restore a contour that is balanced and proportional to your body contour and result in a natural male chest contour.
