How Breast Lift Works
Step 01.
As with all aesthetic surgical procedures at EVOLV Plastic Surgery, breast augmentation workup involves a complete family and medical history, examination, discussion of goals, and review of all options. The preoperative evaluation also includes photo documentation, in some cases 3D computer analysis, and an extensive discussion and review of incision locations, and related concerns. If simultaneous implant augmentation or fat grafting is planned, implant choices and size options as well as fat donor sites are discussed. Itemized costs and recovery time planning are reviewed as well.
Step 02.
Breast lift surgery in Toledo is always done in an accredited outpatient surgery center under either a light general or intravenous anesthetic administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist and experienced licensed nursing staff.
Step 03.
You will be meeting with Dr. Barone in the pre-op area for marking and incision design and planning. Incision placement and length will depend on the degree of correction needed and the amount of tissue and skin laxity. If fat grafting is planned donor sites for contouring will also be marked. The goal is to design a limited and well-hidden incisional scar that allows the necessary lifting and reshaping of the breast. Most often this is accomplished by a ‘vertical mastopexy’ that leaves a smaller incision around the areola and then extends vertically to the fold under the breast, avoiding the additional and longer horizontal scars of traditional techniques.
Step 04.
After making the planned incision, the nipple, and areola are preserved on the underlying breast tissue so they can be repositioned. With minimal dissection, tissues are released and then secured with sutures as the breast is reshaped. If an implant is planned to provide volume for the deflated upper breast it is placed in a precise pocket under the breast tissue. Dr. Barone believes in the minimal dissection of the breast gland with the vertical approach. Long-acting pain blocks (Exparel) or a nerve stimulator to decrease post-operative discomfort are used. Incisions are closed with dissolvable internal sutures and dressings and bra applied. No drains are typically necessary.
Step 05.
You will return to the office in a few days after surgery for your first dressing change. You will see the visible improvements immediately and they will continue to improve as swelling and bruising subside. We will give you specific instructions and recommendations on activities and care of the operative site at each visit. Your final breast lift shape should restore a youthful contour that is attractive and results in a very natural and balanced appearance of the breasts without an ‘operated’ look.
