Procedure Steps
A male breast reduction procedure will be performed under anesthesia for the patient’s comfort. If fatty deposits are causing enlarged breasts, VASER liposuction will be used. This involves tiny incisions on the sides of the breasts, allowing a cannula to be inserted to break up and remove fat cells. If excess tissue and skin are present, an excision technique will be used. This will require an incision around the areola or breast crease where excess skin and tissue can then be removed.
The size of the areola can also be reduced during this technique. Often, a combination of techniques is used for optimal results. Dr. Barone focuses on creating a flat chest with smooth contours. Once this has been achieved, the incisions will be brought together and closed with sutures.
Our plastic surgeons employ important long-acting nerve blocking medication, such as Exparel®, to improve healing time and minimize patient discomfort. All plastic surgery in Toledo is performed in a fully accredited facility with your comfort and safety as our top priority.

Depending on the amount of glandular and fatty tissue removed and techniques needed, recovery time may be several weeks or more. Non-strenuous activities that do not involve the upper arms or shoulders can usually be resumed a few days after surgery. Return to activity is gradual and instructions and guidelines will be recommended based on your procedures and comfort.
Following your procedure, a small dressing and a compression garment are applied. A small tube drain is used in most cases. Patients may ambulate after surgery but will need a ride home after discharge from the surgery center. The first post-operative appointment is typically 3-5 days after surgery. All needed medications and instructions are provided at your pre-operative appointment.
Once healed, patients will notice a flat chest with a more masculine appearance. Patients report feeling more confident with their body and enjoy long-lasting results from their procedure.

As with all aesthetic or cosmetic procedures, cost will depend on the estimated length of time of surgery may take, and the extent of the services needed to obtain a safe and balanced outcome. After your exam and a discussion of your goals, one of our plastic surgeons will explain and recommend your best options and a quote detailing all costs will be provided by our patient coordinator for your review.
