Evolv Plastic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics has developed a variety of corrective and rejuvenative skin treatments designed to address specific skin concerns and to enhance patient results from our programs. These results-oriented comprehensive and customized programs often include a skin analysis, in-office treatments, and a home care regimen consisting of medical-grade skin care products, where the ultimate goal is healthy, youthful looking skin.
Overall skin health is a priority to Dr. Barone, as well as our aesthetics team because it not only enhances the results of our surgical and non-surgical procedures but also maintains these results for years to come.
- What do chemical peels do, and how do they benefit me?
Chemical peels and other corrective skin care treatments primarily offer a resurfacing of the skin. While this may sound aggressive, we offer a range of treatments from very mild to moderate intensity and recommend them based on your particular skin goals, downtime needs, and budget. In general, our corrective skin care treatments use gentle methods of exfoliation to remove the dull superficial layers of the skin, revealing fresher skin below. They also promote growth of new, healthy skin cells. Chemical peels improve skin issues such as hyperpigmentation (brown spots/age spots), fine lines and wrinkles, smooth skin texture and can help minimize active acne.
- What are treatments like?
Peels usually take about 30 minutes. Your aesthetician will thoroughly cleanse your face and begin applying the peel solution. Depending on the type of peel, there may be several “steps” of application. If you have any clogged pores or active breakouts, your aesthetician may extract them at this time. If applicable, your peel may remain on your skin until the next morning. Your provider will give you instructions on how to care for your skin for the time following your treatment and advise you on how to resume your regular home care regimen.
- What can I expect after my treatment?
The length of time you peel will depend on several factors, including the strength of the peel and the health of your skin. Initially, the treated area will feel tight, and peeling should begin 2 to 3 days after the peel. Typically, peeling will last for 3 to 5 days. It is important that you do not pick at peeling skin or pull it off – this can result in dry, cracked or raw skin that can cause hyperpigmentation that is difficult to reverse.
- Is this a normal reaction?
Tightness, itching, mild swelling, redness, dryness and of course peeling are all normal skin reactions after a peel. If you believe at any time that your reaction may not be normal, please contact our office and we will be sure to assist you.
- How often should I do a treatment?
The length of time between treatments depends on your ultimate skin goals. If you are working to correct a difficult issue or are preparing for a big event (wedding, class reunion), your aesthetician may recommend treatments as close together as every 3 weeks for the most significant results. Patients that are in maintenance mode can opt to have treatments every 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the plan discussed between patient and provider. Periodic skin care treatments with your evolv aesthetician gives her the opportunity to examine your skin on a regular basis and make seasonally appropriate changes to your regimen, as well as help you troubleshoot any issues you may have with your regimen.
- I’m not peeling! Was my treatment worth it?
Visible peeling is a tell-tale sign that your treatment is working but is not necessary for best results. Depending on your skin type, skin health, home-care regimen and the type of or strength of the treatment, your peel experience can be different from someone else’s but just as effective. Regardless of the visible peeling, the treatment helps skin cells slough off at an accelerated rate and will result in improved skin condition.
