About this Treatment
Liposuction for Lower Face & Neck
Liposuction of the lower face and neck in Toledo is a contouring procedure to remove excess fat deposits of the neck and lower face and jawline, resulting in a younger appearance and more attractive profile.
Gentle and selective ultrasonic techniques release the fat cell attachments, allowing for the removal of the excess and tightening the skin, resulting in a more defined neck and jawline.
What It Is
Loss of a youthful and attractive neckline can result from congenital or acquired excess fat deposits in the neck and lower facial areas. If the overlying skin is not extremely loose and sagging, liposuction of the lower face and neck can traumatically remove the excess fatty tissue and restore an attractive and defined jawline and higher neckline. We typically perform this minimally invasive procedure on patients under a light general anesthetic through small access incisions hidden behind the ears or in the crease under the chin. When indicated, additional procedures to tighten loose skin may be considered such as Renuvion JPlasma or surgically tightening loose neck muscles (platysmoplasty) to create a higher decline and improve overall liposuction results.
What It Treats
Heavy appearing necklines due to excessive fat accumulations under the skin
Poor definition of the jawline and upper neck not due to severe skin laxity
Early jowling of the lower cheeks
A ‘low’ neckline caused by fat excess under the skin
The ‘turkey gobble’ deformity of fat excess and loose tissues in the neck under the chin
- 1- 1.5 hours
- 7-10 days
- Light general anesthesia
- A More Defined and Youthful Neckline A balanced and ‘non-operated’ look without any obvious visible incisions.
- Thinner and More Contoured Neck and Jawline Sculpting the jaw and upper neckline by gentle removal of excess fat and skin tightening.
- A Higher Appearing Neckline Removal of fat excess lifts the neckline.
- Reduces Cheek Jowls Removal of fat excess in the lower face highlights the natural jawline and reduces the appearance of lower cheek jowls.
- Comprehensive Rejuvenation When indicated, can be combined with neck muscle tightening (platysmoplasty) or skin tightening procedures (minimal incision neck lift) to create a more complete rejuvenation of the lower face and a higher neckline.
How Liposuction Works
We initially perform a comprehensive and focused history and examination, along with a discussion of each patient’s concerns and goals. Photo documentation and skin analysis are also helpful in developing a treatment plan. We will review all potential surgical as well as non-surgical options that address your concerns. It is important to remember that the most natural appearing and balanced results require a comprehensive and individualized analysis and treatment plan as well as preparation and post-treatment maintenance.
Liposuction and other related rejuvenating treatments of the lower face and neck are typically done under a light general anesthetic or awake intravenous sedation at the Regency Outpatient Surgery Center, a fully accredited and certified facility located on the first floor of our office building.
After discussion and preoperative markings, we administer the anesthetic. A specialized solution, called “tumescent solution,” containing medication to improve comfort, reduce any bleeding and bruising as well as minimize post-procedure swelling, and cool the tissues is administered.
The Vaser probe, an ultrasonic device that releases excess fat under the skin as well as tightens loose tissues and preserves nerves and blood vessels (hence the term ’selective liposuction’), is placed via a small incision hidden in the crease behind the ears and under the chin. After releasing the fat with the Vaser, a suction cannula is placed to remove the excess fat from the lower face, jawline, and neck, gently. If other procedures on planned such as Renuvion JPlasma (link) tissue tightening, muscle tightening (platysmoplasty), or skin lift (limited incision neck lift), we perform them as planned.
After we complete the procedure, Exparel, an injectable long-acting pain block, is given if planned. A mildly compressive wrap is applied to the neck and jawline, and after a brief visit to the recovery area and final instructions, you can go home.
Your first post-procedure visit is typically in 3-4 days. At that time, the wrap will be removed, and you will view your initial results, although swelling and some bruising may be seen. Results will continue to improve for weeks as swelling and tissue contour improve. Post-procedure therapeutic services such as lymphatic massage and light therapy will speed recovery and improve results. A personalized maintenance skin care regimen is also essential in achieving your optimal outcome.
What Our Patients Are Saying
I recently had a breast reduction and liposuction of the abdomen, hips, flanks, and back done by Dr. Barone. After having a consultation at another plastic surgeons office I can honestly say that from the very first appointment at Dr. Barone’s Office I was treated fantastic! My consultation was almost 2 hours in length and extremely thorough. Dr. Barone took the time to explain the different options that I had available and what each option would consist of. The pre-op appointment was just as thorough. Susie, one of Dr. Barone’s nurses explained the pre-treatment requirements for the surgery, they gave me a bag full of vitamins that I was to start taking to aid in my healing, Susie’s phone number to call if there were any issues after the surgery, and to top it off a booklet that explained everything pre-op and post-op for my procedures. I had the same great experience at the Surgery Center. The nurses were great, as was the anesthesiologist! Recovery was of course uncomfortable, but nothing that I would say I would ever go through again. I was back to work in 2 weeks! Now for the best part…my results are nothing short of exceptional. Dr. Barone is truly a perfectionist! My breasts look AMAZING! The vaser liposuction did its job, too! Although I am only 3 weeks post-op, and still have some swelling, I can tell that my body has changed dramatically. I would recommend Dr. Barone and his amazing staff (Julie, Amy, Susie, etc.) to anyone! I am already thinking about some other things that I would like to have done, and I know exactly where I will be going!
Very detailed explanation of what the surgery would entail. Very friendly staff. Videos of what it would look like.
Total understanding of the type of procedure that I was going to have. Patient care post op and the staff within the office was just wonderful.
Dr. Barone and his team are always professional and knowledgeable about any questions or concerns I may have and the results have been as described and have achieved the hoped results. [Single best thing is…] Expertise of Dr. Barone and the entire team.
