Breast Lift, also known as a Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate the breast tissue and improve support. A breast lift can rejuvenate the shape of the breasts, restore their youthful contour and position, and can also correct unequal breast position as a result of aging or congenital condition.
Dr. Barone’s technique for mastopexies is advanced – minimizing scarring as much as possible and disturbing the breast tissue as little as possible. His approach also takes into consideration the natural aging process and how the results will last for years to come.

A breast lift may be combined with other procedures in order to achieve each patient’s particular goals. Many women opt to add volume to their breasts with an implant or their own fat at the same time as a mastopexy (Augmentation Mastopexy). Other women may benefit from contouring the sides of the breast and/or the bra line with VASER Liposuction

- Who is a candidate for a breast lift?
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, can not only lift sagging or loose breast tissue, but also reshape, balance and support the breast. The goal is to restore the natural and youthful contour of the breasts. A breast lift can also restore fullness to the deflation or loss of contour in the upper breast as well as reposition the downward pointing nipple and areola.
- Will a breast lift change the size of my breasts?
A breast lift or mastopexy can be done with a breast implant depending on each patient’s needs or goals. A breast lift on its own will not add to the volume of the breast but by reshaping and lifting the tissue of the breast, after surgery they may seem fuller and more youthful in position. For some patients with less breast tissue or after significant weight loss, a breast implant may be helpful with the mastopexy in order to restore a balanced shape.
- Where is the scar located in breast lift surgery?
There are several incision options in mastopexy which will depend on the amount of sagging and excess breast skin as well as the technique of the surgeon. In most cases, Dr. Barone prefers a limited incision technique called a “vertical mastopexy.” This approach minimizes the incision by limiting it to the edge of the areola and directly down, or vertical to the lower breast fold. Other options are also considered in selected patients, but there are no scars above the areola or nipples.
- What is the recovery time after breast lift?
Recovery time following mastopexy will vary and depend on the amount of correction needed, the option of liposuction for contouring, and whether or not a breast implant is used to enhance upper breast contour. Dr. Barone does not use surgical drains for the majority of his mastopexy procedures, and most non-strenuous activities can be resumed within a few weeks. Our nursing staff and Dr. Barone will provide specific times for your recovery depending on the extent of the procedure and your aesthetic goals.
- What is they typical cost of a breast lift procedure?
Breast lift or mastopexy is not usually covered by insurance, except in breast cancer reconstruction. Total costs will depend upon the length of time in surgery, and technique of a breast implant is needed. A specific and itemized estimate of costs will be provided and explained to you by our patient coordinator after your consultation with Dr. Barone.
- Will breast lift reduce feeling in my breasts or nipples?
When performed by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon, breast lift surgery is extremely safe and in most cases will not reduce nipple sensation. Some temporary sensory loss or decrease is normal for several months after surgery, but usually resolves. The risk of sensory loss is related to the amount of tissue sag to be corrected as well as surgical technique.
Following a breast lift procedure, the ability of breast feeding is usually not reduced, but can depend on age and the extent of the surgery needed.
- How can I determine which breast shape and size are best for me?
Dr. Barone and our nursing staff believe in helping each patient achieve predictable and realistic goals in all aesthetic procedures at evolv. Achieving optimal results in breast surgery will require a comprehensive history and physical examination, review of comparable patient before and after photos, and analysis of individual patient anatomy. evolv Plastic Surgery also uses the Vectra 3D Imaging System to provide realistic 3 dimensional computer images that can help you imagine your post-op result.
