Liposuction can be used on virtually any part of the body including the abdomen, flanks, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, bra area, and under the chin.
Liposuction Patient Health
The procedure is not an alternative to weight loss however and should only be done when the patient is in their ideal weight range. For successful results, candidates should also have firm elastic skin. Those interested in liposuction should have realistic goals in mind and be able to maintain an optimistic outlook.
Candidates should not have any serious illnesses and should quit smoking prior to surgery to ensure proper healing. Patients who are undergoing another contouring procedure like a tummy tuck, breast lift, or body lift can often benefit from liposuction for optimal results.

Because liposuction is less invasive than a surgical procedure, patients will have the choice of local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia for their comfort. Tiny incisions will then be made in the target area where a small, tube-like device called a cannula can be inserted. Once inserted, the device is used to break up the stubborn fat cells, removing them with a gentle suction. The length of this process will depend on the extent of stubborn fat and the size of the area being treated.
In most cases, Dr. Frank Barone or Dr. Peter Koltz will recommend VASER Liposuction, or ultrasonic liposuction, which effectively breaks down fat cells before removal, virtually eliminating unnecessary trauma to surrounding areas.
Our plastic surgeons employ important long-acting nerve blocking medication, such as Exparel®, to improve healing time and minimize patient discomfort. All plastic surgery in Toledo is performed in a fully accredited facility with your comfort and safety as our top priority.
