If you are noticing frown lines or deep furrows between your brows, but aren’t ready for facelift surgery, Xeomin® injections may be right for you. Frown lines generally form over time from muscles in the forehead that repeatedly contract, overworking the muscles that lead to deep creases.
What is Xeomin®?
Xeomin® is made through a specific process that utilizes only the therapeutic components of the molecule incobutulinumtoxinA. Similar to Botox® in Toledo and Dysport®, Xeomin® temporarily blocks chemicals that cause facial muscles to move. This non-surgical procedure uses injections in your overburdened muscles to smooth out lines which generally form over time from muscles that repeatedly contract, and lead to deep creases.
If you are noticing frown lines or deep furrows between your brows but aren’t ready for facelift or brow lift surgery, Xeomin® injections may be right for you. Candidates for Xeomin® are healthy individuals who have no history of neuromuscular disease and also have realistic expectations for their results. A consultation with Dr. Barone can help you further determine whether Xeomin® is right for you.
Preparing for Your Xeomin® Treatment
What to Know About Your Xeomin® Treatment
Before you undergo any cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure, it’s important to understand your aesthetic goals and desired results. During your consultation, your aesthetician will want to discuss them with you to make sure that your unique procedure yields the best results for you. Be sure to come prepared with some questions so you are comfortable and informed about every step of the procedure. Some good questions to ask include:
- How many years of experience do you have in performing this procedure?
- Who will perform the procedure and where?
- Are there any risks or complications associated with this procedure?
Any other questions you might have can be answered during your consultation. Your continued comfort with the procedure and aesthetician are the most important consideration in preparing for your procedure.
After determining the best locations for the injections, the Xeomin® is administered to treat lines and wrinkles. This requires an acute knowledge of facial muscles and their movements, so your aesthetician should have plenty of experience administering Xeomin®. Most patients tolerate the slight discomfort from the injection well, but a topical numbing agent can easily be administered. Treatment usually lasts 15 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated. Xeomin® has minimal complications or pain associated, except for a slight pinch from the needle.
Because Xeomin® is a topical injection, there is no downtime required. There may be some redness or irritation at the injection site, as well as some swelling, but these effects are minimal. Be sure not to touch, rub, or massage the injection site, as this can cause the Xeomin® to spread to other muscles and cause drooping or facial weakness.
Within two days of your treatment, you’ll notice an improvement or elimination of your deep frown lines. Results from Xeomin® last up to four months, with touch-up treatments necessary to maintain wrinkle-free results. Xeomin® may be an excellent option for you if you are distressed by deep frown lines. Although the results cannot mimic a full surgical rejuvenation procedure, it’s a great alternative for individuals not ready for surgery.
The cost of Xeomin® will vary based on how much area is being treated, and therefore how much product is being used. Always consider the cost of the skill and experience of your aesthetician, as many medical providers advertise inexpensive injections that are ‘watered down’ and ineffective. It’s important that you always seek the most qualified and experienced plastic surgeon for your cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures, including Xeomin®.
