An arm lift (brachioplasty), can improve the appearance of the upper arms and bra-line area by removing excess fatty tissue and addressing skin laxity. Liposuction is commonly used as a part of this procedure to reshape the arms into more pleasing and youthful contours.
As individuals age, the skin on the upper arm can become loose and flabby. Tightening the skin is done through a surgical procedure which requires an incision from the elbow to the underarm, sometimes on to the side of the chest. Dr. Barone will work with each patient during an individualized consultation to ensure each patient’s goals are realistic and achievable. Not only will an arm lift offer physical advantages by reducing the upper arm skin and excess tissue, it also offers emotional advantages as patients have an improved self-image and greater confidence.
Patients may be good candidates for an arm lift if they are concerned about the following:
- Normal weight and size but are self-conscious; simply needing a little tightening
- Massive weight loss resulting in excess flabby skin under the arms
- Excess skin under the arms that has become bothersome due to the aging process
Liposuction alone can be an effective treatment for patients who have a minimal amount of fat in the upper arm and no excess skin. Some patients have minimal extra skin near the arm pit, which can be improved with limited scarring in that location. Patients who have a significant amount of upper arm skin, which is often the case with massive weight loss, tissue must be removed through an incision from the elbow, across the arm pit, and onto the side of the chest.
