Causes

Acne is an inflammation of the sebaceous glands in the deeper layers of the skin that can become infected and result in damage to the gland and follicle creating a deficit scar in the skin.
These scars can be exacerbated by picking and scratching at blemishes.
Post-inflammatory pigmentation is another common result of acne that appears as dark patches on the surface of the skin.
